Thirteen year old Percy Jackson has just found out something unusual about himself. His father is Poseidon, god of the seas, making him a thirteen year old demi-god. So, when you find out you're a demi-god you do what all the other teen demi-gods do--you go to summer camp. Percy is sent to Camp Half Blood, where he is trained in the ways of the gods. It is from here that he is sent on an extraordinary quest to retrieve Zeus' masterbolt, the most powerful tool of the gods, and return it to Mt. Olympus. Equipped with his magical sword, Riptide, Percy heads out on a journey across the United States to find Hades, god of the Underworld. Along the way he is confronted by angry gods, furies and challenges of mythical proportions.
If you enjoy modern day fantasies, this book is for you. As usual, the book was much better than the movie. I highly recommend The Lightning Thief, the first in a five book series by Rick Riordan.

ReplyDeleteI love love love the whole series! What a fantastic adventure filled with nail-biting action, bits of humor, and interesting characterization. The only movie that was as good as the book is Gone with the Wind.
