Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer by John Grisham

Theodore Boone knows a lot about the law. He's acquainted with every judge and legal clerk in the county, and has clients lining up outside his small office daily, seeking legal advice on matters from traffic tickets to bankruptcy. One problem, Theo Boone has not yet graduated from law school, or passed the Bar Exam. Before he can do that, he has to get through the 8th grade.

Theo's parents are both lawyers, running a pretty busy firm. Theo and his dog, Judge, are in the office every day after school, where Theo gives free legal advice to whomever needs it. One afternoon Theo is approached by a fellow student, who informs Theo that his cousin is a possible witness to a high profile murder that has grabbed the attention of the entire community. The suspect seems to have an airtight alibi, but the witness' information could put the alleged killer in jail for the rest of his life. However, the witness is an illegal alien who is afraid he will be deported if he comes forward. Theo's left with the difficult decision of disclosing what he knows about the murder to the authorities, or keeping the information to himself and possibly allowing a muderer to go free.
